Suppertime for Lice

Lice have narrow tubes in their mouth called stylets. When these stylets poke through the host skin, the louse sucks out a small amount of blood. This blood is their meal. Lice need a blood meal at least every 2 days to survive. The lice pictures indicate that small, red bumps may develop on the skin from lice bites.
